Min-Novation

The Foundation of Innovative Initiatives acts as an external service provider and co-manages the “MIN-NOVATION Mining and Mineral Processing Waste Management Innovation Network” project, funded through the Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007-2013.

The project is led by the AGH University of Science and Technology’s Department of Mining and Geoengineering, and is only the 2nd Baltic Sea Region Programme-funded project where the consortium leader is a Polish institution. The project budget is 3.5 mln Euro.

The objective of the project is to promote mining waste management as an economic opportunity for large and small businesses alike and more generally to raise awareness among stakeholders, including policymakers, about the benefits of treating mining waste as a resource. One of the main outputs of the project is the implementation of 4 pilot installations which demonstrate how mining waste can represent market value.

The project includes 11 partners from 6 countries of the Baltic Sea Region: Poland, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Norway and Sweden.

The project began in January 2011 and will be completed in December 2013.
